Road to Shine

    Mrs. Bigelow, from the United States, founded a school in Quanxi, Guangzhou, focusing on early childhood education.

  • 1921
  • 1921

    The Anglo-American Church bought a plot of land west of Guangzhou city, and built the primary school. The school began operating the next year.

  • 1932
  • 1932

    Principal LIU Fung Ling founded the private Heep Woh Girls’ Secondary School. The motto was ‘When you know the truth, the truth will set you free’.

    The Second Sino-Japanese War broke out. The school was moved to Macau the next year.

  • 1945
  • 1945

    The school returned to Guangzhou after the war.

  • 1947

    Principal LIU Fung Ling and Mrs. Schaefer rented No.22, Kent Road, Kowloon Tong for the primary school. The school was officially opened the next year.

    With the donation from the Presbyterian Church in the United States, the premises on Sai Yeung Choi Street was purchased. In the same year, the school succeeded in obtaining its premises on Prince Edward Road.

    The primary school switched to being government-subsidized. The plot in Tsz Wan Shan was obtained the same year, and Heep Woh College was built.

    Heep Woh College was established with its temporary campus at Heep Woh Primary School on Prince Edward Road. There were six classes in both F. 1 and F. 2. Reverend Bunton was the first supervisor. Mrs. YAU HO Yan Tak, Katherine, was the first principal.

    In January, the school was opened by the Hon. J. Canning, J.P., Director of Education; the school in Tsz Wan Shan officially started operating in September.

    Reverend WONG, Peter took after as the second supervisor.

    The number of classes increased to twenty-two.

    The Students’ Association was established.

    Reverend LEE Ching-Chee became the third supervisor; Mrs. KWOK LEUNG Kun Shing became the second principal.

    Reverend KWOK Nai Wang became the fourth supervisor.

    • The Parents-Teachers’ Association was established.

    Ms. LAM Yee Wah, Evelyn became the fourth principal.

    Reverend WU Ping Kit became the seventh supervisor.

    • Celebration of 85th Anniversary
    • The theme ‘Develop full potential ability, maintain moral integrity and nurture good habits’ was adopted.

    Reverend LUK Fai became the eighth supervisor.

    The School Management Committee was formed with members including the supervisor, the school managers, the principal and the vice-principals, representatives from the teaching staff, a representative from the Hong Kong Council of The Church of Christ in China and, representatives from both parents and alumni.

    In accordance with the language policy standards set by the Education and Manpower Bureau, the school continued using English as a medium of instruction.

    Dr. CHEUNG WONG Wan Yiu, J.P. M.B.E. became the ninth supervisor.

    • School Improvement Project (SIP) started with our alumnus Dr. WONG Kwok Chun as the honorary consultant.

    • Establishment of Heep Woh Church in the school.

    Dr. WONG Sing Wing, Dennis became the tenth supervisor.

    Visit by Chief Executive The Hon. Mr. TUNG Chee Hwa on 25th February. Mr. Tung visited classes and had a talk with the student leaders.

    • Heep Woh College celebrated our 40th Anniversary. The Reunion Dinner, with more than 1200 alumni and friends participating, was held on campus. The Anniversary Year concluded with a musical “The Old School Tie” held at the ICQM.

    Heep Woh Centenary Banquet was held in Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre.

    • Our graduate, TSANG Yee Wai attained 5** in all seven subjects she sat for in the 2013 HKDSE.

    • CCC Heep Woh College was the first school in Asia awarded as one of the winners of the HK MAKE Award 2013 – 2015, the Asian MAKE Award 2014 and the Best Knowledge Culture Award (HK MAKE) 2014.

    • EDB External School Review on 18th, 20th to 22nd and 27th February.
    • Theme of the year: Renewing Our Mind; Soaring High Up in the Sky.

    • Three S6 students, MAK Kin Wing, LEUNG Ho Kwan and LAM Ka Chun, won a championship in the Open Category of World Robot Olympiad 2014 in Russia.

    • Naming ceremony of Function Hall as Mr. KWAN Man Biu Function Hall and Room 313 as Mrs. KWAN Yau Kam Luen Chinese Language & Chinese History Learning Centre.

    Our Golden Jubilee Anniversary Banquet was held in August 2022. The evening succeeded in capturing over fifty years of unforgettable memories.

    Our college produced its first Cantonese Musical drama "Lights Up". It was an original production, crafted with the remarkable talents of our dedicated teachers, talented students, and supportive alumni. This musical events not only promised an exceptional experience of entertainment but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and cultural exchange among our educational institutions.
